“Spolia”

Agglomerati x Pierre Castignola

The project, titled Spolia (Latin for “spoils,” or architectural fragments repurposed in new contexts), unites Agglomerati’s material-driven focus with Castignola’s fragmentary approach. Using salvaged fireplace mantels from Beirut’s Najem Stone Group, the team transforms architectural relics into functional stone objects. Hearths become shelves; surrounds become benches. Each piece retains traces of its origin while embracing a new formal language defined by visible cuts, seams, and recomposition.

Spolia questions traditional notions of value - finish, authorship, function - while celebrating stone’s layered history and regenerative potential. The result is a poetic convergence of heritage and contemporary innovation.
